Emcelle Vitamin E

Emcelle® -Tocopherol (Vitamin E)

Vitamin E is an essential nutrient for horses, meaning they can not manufacture it on their own and it needs to be supplied in their diet. Quality pasture provides Vitamin E, but when pasture is limited or not available it needs to be supplemented. Vitamin E helps your horse fight the many effects of free radical production that can damage membranes and components of cells.

Natural Vitamin E is twice as bioavailable as synthetic, and water soluble (micellized water dispersible) is six times more bioavailable. Water Soluble Vitamin E has gone through a micellization process that turns this fat soluble vitamin into a water soluble vitamins, allowing for more efficient absorption into the bloodstream from the digestive tract.

500 IU Vitamin E per ML

Directions for Use

This product contains 500 IU vitamin E activity per 1 ml. It is designed to be fed at a daily rate of 1-3 IU per pound of body weight (2-6 IU per kg). As an example, a 100 lb animal would require 0.2 to 0.6 ml daily to provide 100 to 300 IU vitamin E activity. A 1000 lb animal would require 2 to 6 ml daily to provide 1000 to 3000 IU vitamin E activity. The product may be diluted with water immediately prior to feeding.

Store at room temperature or under refrigeration. Avoid freezing and excessive heat.

How It Works

Vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol) is an essential nutrient for horses beneficial to combat the multitude of effects of free radical production that can damage membranes and components of cells. As such, Vitamin E appears to be most beneficial to young rapidly growing foals, pregnant and lactating mares, stallions, and especially, equine athletes. Natural and synthetic-sources of vitamin E, unlike other vitamins, have different structures. The natural source is preferentially transported to and retained in tissues at higher levels than synthetic source vitamin E.

Antioxidants are the horse’s major defense system against the scourge of free radicals and oxidative stress keeping their damage to a minimum. Enzymatic antioxidants are synthesized in the body to neutralize free radical production. Key enzymatic antioxidants include superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase. Other major sources of antioxidants available to the horse are non-enzymatic or nutritional antioxidants. Non-enzymatic antioxidants, like vitamin E, carotenoids, vitamin C and others scavenge and convert free radicals to relatively stable compounds and stop the chain-reaction of free radical damage. Therefore, all antioxidants are critically important to protect horses from tissue damage, disease, and may during these processes enhance immunity. The critical phases of reproduction in mares and stallions, growth of foals, and exercise of equine athletes, are all especially important. Thus, for the horse, vitamin E appears to be the most important dietary fat-soluble non-enzymatic antioxidant to assist in combating free radical production and propagation. Since horses synthesize vitamin C, vitamin E and possibly carotenoids appear to be the major antioxidant vitamins required from dietary sources.
